The Builders Guild of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. (Builders Guild) proudly supports green building construction and principles of sustainability. Its member organizations, including all local building trade unions and numerous contractor associations, actively sponsor and provide green training, and incorporate and practice green building in all types of construction.

The Builders Guild recognizes and encourages the value of reducing this nation’s carbon footprint through the incorporation and recycling of energy efficient materials, installation of energy saving systems, and general promotion of environmental awareness and green building principles.

We encourage, support and offer numerous green building certifications, such as LEED, Energy Star, Green Advantage, Pervious Concrete and others. Through Joint Apprenticeship Training Centers, we teach a wide variety of green building initiatives, including solar hot water heating, solar electricity generation, rain water harvesting, surveying environmental systems for retrofit/energy auditing, wind turbine training and Green Building Awareness, among many other classes in the design, construction and retrofitting of energy efficient buildings.

We support and practice recycling of construction and other materials in and outside of our industry, the use of biodegradable products, and cleaner burning fuels and machinery.
