Local Unions Rally and Assist Region’s Flood Victims
No one here ever thought that the recent devastating hurricanes would as far north as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but the remnants of Ivan did strike with a vengeance on September 17 th this year, and left several local communities devastated by flooding.
The areas union plumbers, steamfitters, pipe fitters, sprinkler fitters and Mechanical Contractors Association partnered with the Salvation Army, local gas companies and Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores and immediately mobilized an effort to bring desperately needed materials and assistance to flood victims.
With donations of over $170,000 to purchase gas fired hot water tanks, donated trucks, repair materials and hundreds of volunteer labor hours from their members, these groups installed hot water tanks, gas & water lines and donated unlimited hours of plumbing and labor to those in need. Union apprentices also pitched in and fabricated adaptors and connectors for all of the tanks to expedite the installation process.
Thanks to all of the generous and highly skilled UA members who came together to assist our neighbors and community!
