CONSTRUCTION AWARDS TO HIGHLIGHT ‘EVENING OF EXCELLENCE’

Pittsburgh, PA--Recognizing outstanding achievement in local construction, the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania (MBA) will present its 2007 Building Excellence Awards on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Lexus Club at PNC Park as part of “The Construction Industry Evening of Excellence.”

To help celebrate local construction, the evening will bring together industry leaders, including contractors, engineers, architects, subcontractors, building trades’ officials and others who help contribute to the quality of construction in Western Pennsylvania. The event is being sponsored by the MBA, which represents the area’s leading commercial, institutional and industrial contractors and other affiliated organizations. The MBA is the local chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, the nation’s largest and oldest construction trade association.

“The Pittsburgh area is home to some of the finest contractors in the country,” said Jeff Burd, president of Tall Timber Group, a construction marketing firm, and publisher of Breaking Ground magazine. “The abundance of quality contractors and a large locally based skilled workforce makes this area an attractive location for developers and property owners who are looking to build new or renovate existing building and facilities.”

The Building Excellence Awards are presented annually to area contractors in four categories: Projects Over $5 Million, Projects Under $5 Million, Excellence in Craftsmanship, and Design/Build. This year, 24 entries were received with the winners to be honored during the “Night of Excellence” celebration.

Last year’s winners included the University of Pittsburgh’s Biomedical Science Tower 3 in Oakland, the State Police Barracks in Jefferson Hills, The Encore on 7th in Downtown Pittsburgh, and “Jewel in the Woods”—The Julie Clakely Memorial Center for the Spirit in Wexford.

“We look forward to recognizing excellence in the construction industry,” said Jack Ramage, executive director of the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania. “All too often, we fail to appreciate the contributions local contractors make to our environment and to our quality of life.”

The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Lexus Club with the presentation of awards to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets ($20) are available by calling the Construction Advancement Program at 412-922-4703. Tickets include two drinks, a strolling buffet and free parking.
